Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a yoga style that aims at offering a counter-balancing practice for all yang-flavored styles of yoga, with an approach that prioritizes joints, and fascia over muscles.

While Yin Yoga has the same general goals and objectives as any other type of yoga; it seeks to direct the transformative istimulation normally created in the asana portion of a yoga practice beyond muscular tissues, to connective tissues, such as ligaments, bones and fascia, especially around the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.

While initially this style of yoga can seem quite passive, or soft, as a practice, it can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses, which are to be held anywhere from one to twenty minutes.

In Chinese Medicinal Science, which has a considerable influence on Yin Yoga, it is said that Yin and Yang tissues respond quite differently to being exercised. Yin yoga offers an opportunity to effectively and healthily relate to Yin tissues.
