The Alchemicy of Mantra
Mantra Yoga relates to the use of sound vibration, as a practice designed to cleanse and transform all layers and dimensions of your being -physical, mental, emotional and energetic.
Most spiritual traditions relate to the universal through a cosmology that contains the following introductory proposition, (of course, I am paraphrasing here): 'In the beginning was the word.'
In the beginning of all of creation, there was the Word; the first sound; the first wave; the first expression of will, intention and energy through infinite consciousness.
From a human perspective, words can be either 1) inspiringly supportive and positively transformational, or, 2) devastatingly, and even irremediably, harmful.
From a practical Yogic perspective, sound is conscious informational energy that can be expressed, generated, or received.
Nada Yoga is a practical approach that explores Sound, as conscious informational energy linking Spirit (the unchanging, unchangeable, infinite, eternal, all-pervading, unlimitedly potentiated Source) to the manifested human form.
The aim of Nada yoga is reaching a level of experiential mastery of sound vibration, as fundamental informational energy, that supports and leads to an alchemical transformation of self, from embodied consciousness to spiritual consciousness.
Similarly, the term 'Vak' is used in numerous yogic traditions in reference to sound, as conscious informational energy, 'Prana', in expression through the embodied consciousness of the human individual.
Here, the quality of the expressed sound, 'Vak', (as in spiritually enlightening, or egotistically untrue and misleading), is directly related to the quality of the individual's consciousness, (as in spiritually connected, or spiritually disconnected and limited consciousness).
From a broad Tantric perspective, sound is a primordial component of, and means by which alchemical transcendence, or, successful spiritual evolution can be achieved. In almost all Tantric traditions mantras are essential tools in the spiritual practice.
